Two major productions have been filmed in Abu Dhabi and are being released soon. War Machine is an original Netflix TV series produced with Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment. The series is a satirical comedy based on the best-selling book, The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late American journalist Michael Hastings. You can watch it soon exclusively on Netflix.

Another major production is Dishoom, Bollywood’s next blockbuster. It is an action-adventure film directed by Rohit Dhawan and staring Varun Dhawan and John Abraham. The release date is set for 29 July 2016.

Redesigned studio cements key network role

CNN has unveiled new state-of-the-art broadcasting facilities at its redesigned Middle Eastern hub in Abu Dhabi.

The network has completely reconfigured its studio, which is home to CNN’s flagship current affairs programme, Connect the World with Becky Anderson. The facility now features the very latest HD broadcasting equipment and a re-imagined space that opens up a range of new possibilities for news, programming and community initiatives.

In recognition of Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation for media and entertainment, US industry experts will meet local industry players and lead a series of talent development workshops.

twofour54 and America Abroad Media (AAM) have teamed up to bring top US television and creative industry executives to the Capital to strengthen relationships and support local talent development. In recognition of Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation in the global film and television industry, four distinguished media and entertainment executives will spend a week in the Capital meeting local industry players and leading workshops with young industry talent and those interested in pursuing a career in television and the creative industries. The programme of public workshops and closed sessions took place at the twofour54 campus between 30 May and 1 June.

The Republic of Korea has chosen Abu Dhabi to open its first Korean Cultural Centre in the Gulf in efforts to strengthen strategic ties between the two countries. As part of the opening ceremony, The Korea Creative Contents Agency (KOCCA) and the Media Zone Authority - Abu Dhabi signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize the organisation’s shared commitment to building a solid bilateral relationship that will support the continued development of Abu Dhabi’s media industry and the strategic entry of KOCCA into the Middle East.
